Exam reviews in Remindo

After a digital assessment, students are entitled to review their exams. There are many ways to organise a review. They can be organised digitally, securely on Chromebooks in an exam room or remotely from the students’ homes. Or you could decide to allow your students to review their exams on paper.  Below is a description of the various ways to organise an exam review. Coordinate your choice with your key user.

Option 1: Review immediately following exam

Students can review their exam immediately upon completing it.

Questions and comments arising from the review can either be discussed with the teacher in person or noted down on paper provided at the start of the exam. Those notes can be collected when students exit the room.

When to use

This option is appropriate for exams taken on location at one of the faculties. The exam cannot contain open questions, since those require evaluation by a teacher.

The main advantage is that an immediate review usually obviates the need for a scheduled one later.

Another advantage is that the teacher gets immediate feedback from students, who will find that feedback easier to give because their experiences and opinions are still fresh in their minds.

Requirement:

When the teacher communicates the exam details to the key user, they should also indicate that the students will be allowed to review the exam immediately afterwards.

Do you have quite some experience with Remindo and do you want to organise this yourself? Go to ‘Recipe settings’ and turn on the following option: Visibility of results to students.

Option 2: Scheduled digital assessment (secure)

The students can review the exam results in a specific location at a specific date and time. The exam review will be prepared for each student who logs in (same as during the performance of the exam). Discuss with your key user:

  • if students can simply walk in (which means that the exam has to be made ready for everyone)
  • if the exam should only be made ready for those students who signed up for it beforehand. In this case, inform your key user at least three days in advance which students have signed up.

When to use

This option is appropriate for exams taken by large groups or that take more than 2 hours to complete.

The teacher is present at the review, which takes place on Chromebooks in a secure digital environment at the Educatorium or relevant faculty. Teachers receive immediate feedback from students and vice versa.

Requirement:

The review has to take place in a space that allows for secure digital reviews. The teacher must secure such a space through Scheduling (preferably at the time of scheduling the exam) and must be present during the review. If that isn’t possible, the teacher will arrange for a suitable replacement. Discuss with your key user:

  • if students can simply walk in (which means that the exam has to be made ready for everyone)
  • if the exam should only be made ready for those students who signed up for it beforehand. In this case, inform your key user at least three days in advance which students have signed up.

Option 3: Scheduled digital review (open)

The students can review their exam results from any internet connection. In all other respects the review is organised as for option 2. A small difference, however, is that students can review their exam results individually from home.

When to use

This is an option when scheduling a secure digital review proves difficult, because there is no room available at the Educatorium for instance.

Option 4: Hard copy review

For small groups of students the review can be done on paper. The exam results of the relevant students must be printed from Remindo to make that possible.

When to use

This option is appropriate when fewer than five students (rule of thumb) have signed up for a review. The advantage of this option is that it doesn’t require a digital assessment facility. This is not a practical solution for larger groups, since the exam has to be printed for each student individually.

Requirement:

The teacher can simply print exam results from Remindo, The key user will be available in case any issues should arise.

  • Granting students additional time:

It is possible for a teacher to grant additional time to a student during a review through the activity overview in the student view (uu.remindotoets.nl).

    Visibility of results for students:

When scheduling the review digitally, you can specificy which students can view their results. Your key user will set this up for you. These are the options you can choose from:

    • Show all answered questions or Only show incorrecty answered questions
    • Show the correct answer for these questions (Yes/No)
    • Show the number of correct/incorrect questions (Yes/No)
    • Show the score details (Yes/No)
    • Show their grade (Yes/No)
    • Show the score area name (Yes/No)
