Drawing question

Using a simple drawing tool, the student can draw various types of drawing, for example structures, reaction equations, diagrams, schemes, etc. It is also possible to upload an image on which students can draw.

  • Attention: The drawing question still has some technical limitations: zooming in and out in the drawing field takes times and therefore is not very useful in drawings that require precision. Secondly, it proves to be more difficult to delete drawn lines. Moreover, it is not possible to print out a drawing question. We advise you to keep these limitations in mind when thinking about using the drawing question in your exams, and to test the possibilities of the drawing question yourself to see if it matches your needs.

Attention: because the drawing question is a new question type and students are likely not used to drawing on a laptop, we advise you to provide students with a drawing question in an exercise/practice exam as to allow them to practice this question type. You can also point students to Example test, to which the drawing question has also been added (this test can be found in the navigation bar above).

  • Step 1

    • Log into admin view.
    • Add a new question and select Drawing.

  • Tip! Give the question a sensible name/code. For example, use the topic of the question. This allows you to find the question easily, using the search function in Remindo. It is also possible to add properties to the question, using a logical main theme. Veterinary Medicine uses properties based on the type of animal and/or organ system.

We advise you to use a similar coding system as demonstrated below:

Topic: Topic of the question. For example: The human body
Sub topic: Subtopic of the question. For example: Foot
Sub topic 2: Possibly another subtopic. For example: Toe
Book/article/Class: Has the learning goal of this question been discussed in a book, article or class? For example: Book
Author: Who discussed the learning goal of this question? For example: Johnson
Optional: Is the question easy, average difficulty, or difficult? For example: Easy

  • Step 2

    • Add the body of your question in the field Text block contents (unlike other question types, like the open question, this question type does not allow you to add the question to the same field as the drawing).
    • Click on ‘Settings’ on the left to add scoring criteria and the score.

  • Step 3

    • Click on Choose image under ‘Question settings’ to add an image on which students will be able to draw. You can use this option, for example, when students are expected to finish the image, or when you want to offer a coordinate system for students to draw a graph.
Attention: The zoom-function is limited, so it is difficult to draw with precision. If precision is important in graphs, for example, using Numworx as a substitute might be a better option. Ask your key-user for the possibilities.
Attention: media files can be no bigger than 500 mb.
    • Fill in the maximum score students can attain for the scoring criteria under Scoring > Scoring criteria > Points. If you have one scoring criterion, enter the maximal score for the questions.
    • You can add more scoring criteria by clicking on Add extra scoring criterion. The points for each criteria are added to make up the question’s total score.
    • Enter the key to the question/criterion under Description for corrector.
    • Choose if you want to allow decimal scoring.
    • Add feedback if wanted.

  • Checking a drawing question works the same as with an open question. It is also possible to look at earlier steps in the drawing (see screenshot). Do make sure you do not accidentally retract points because you are not looking at the final version of the answer.

  • Step 4

    • Click on Save question when you are finished with creating the drawing question.
